Our end of the year party is this Sunday May 19th at Sehmel Park Meadow at 1:30.  We will be eating, recognizing our coaches, and playing a little volleyball.  See everyone Sunday!

Coach Dre Buckner returns to lead the 3rd Annual GHVC Summer Academy

Who is running the camp? USA Volleyball CAP II certified coach Dre Buckner from Southern California.  She has extensive college, club, high school and USA High Performance coaching experience. She was recently invited to the Olympic Training center for five 12-hour days of volleyball instruction with some of the top coaches in the country…including our current National Team (and King of the Beach) Karch Kiraly.  She has 2 silver medals coaching SoCal 12-15 year olds in national level competition in the USA HP tournament. She is a libero and setter evaluator for the USA HP summer camp program. Coach Dre was featured in USA Volleyball Magazine, click here (see page 4) to read more about Coach Dre and her philosophy.

What do you get for $259?  24 hours of top level camp instruction with LOTS of personal feedback from coach Dre. If you were to Google the UCLA, UNLV or Long Beach State camps (all great camps Dre has participated in) you would see costs of $300-$400 for the same amount of time. The difference? You don’t have to pay for travel to get that level of instruction AND your Gig Harbor Volleyball Club coaching staff will be assisting, not just players. Also, because the GHVC limits participants to just 36 kids on 3 courts, you will get plenty of personal feedback from the staff. Basically…more bang for your buck. Plus you get a t-shirt!

What can your athlete expect from the camp?  LOTS of reps and feedback! While this camp is great for players of all levels, it is geared towards players with experience.  It is designed to improve EVERY athlete that attends.  This means, players will be stretched beyond their comfort zones and asked to try new things.  They will get many MANY contacts with a ball, some of those unsuccessfully at first. Last year, some girls felt a bit overwhelmed on day 1. This is normal for younger, more inexperienced players. Parental and coaching staff encouragement will help those athletes push through and have a great experience.

When: Mon July 29th-Thurs Aug 1st.

Where: Gig Harbor HS

Time: 9am-4pm (8am on the first day, Monday)

New This Year:  Family discount of 10% for each additional sibling.  Players will need to bring their own lunch.  This keeps cost lower and we have found that players prefer their own type of food. Of course water, Gatorade, and snacks will be provided.

PAA holds a Women's VB "Open Gym" at Gig Harbor High School from 7pm-9pm Wednesdays evenings through thru May.  All you have to do is show up and pay $3 to Supervisor Eric Guenther.  This is a great opportunity for moms and daughters to play a little volleyball together. So kids, grab your mom and head out for some volleyball!
